Best Answer

Antoine Lavoisier determined that oxygen was a key substance in combustion, and he gave the element its name. He developed the modern system of naming chemical substances and has been called the “father of modern chemistry” for his emphasis on careful experimentation.

He was a French chemist and biologist who lived from August 26, 1743 - May 8, 1794 he is considered the Father of Modern Chemistry. He stated the first version of the law of the conservation of mass, discovered and named oxygen, and hydrogen. He eliminated the phlogiston theory, introduced the metic system and wrote the first extensive list of elements. Lavoisier was different to all the scientists of his time because he introduced quantitative chemistry (chemistry with accurate measurements). He worked on the combustion of phosphorous and sulfur.

== == == Actually, it wasn't because he was smart and rich. It was because earlier in life he was a tax collector and a lot of people hated him. The French killed one of their best scientists and this actually makes it ironic. I mean which country kills one of their best scientists?!==

Antonie Lavioisier dicovered phlogiston, and discovered the Law of Conservation of Mass by burning sulphur, and measuring the mass before and after.

he founded the combustion engines / chemical

He also is pretty famous for coming up with names like "oxygen" and plus, the periodic elements, well he came up with the name "elements" for those 33 substances.

Antoine Lavoisier contributions - Lavoisier, independently from Lomonosov, emitted the law of mass conservation
- Lavoisier constated the first that combustion is a raction with oxygen
- Lavoisier was a proter of the metric system units
- Lavoisier written a list of chemical elements
- Lavoisier fighted against the theory of phlogiston
- Lavoisier had contributions to the chemistry of oxygen, hydrogen, sulfur, silicon, phosphorus, carbon dioxide
- Lavoisier discovered that diamond is carbon
- Lavoisier worked for a rational nomenclature in chemistry
etc.
