AnswerAustralia as a Dominion of Britain joined WW1 in August 1914. Its prime remembered contribution was in Gallipoli Turkey in 1915 which it with New Zealand remembers solemnly on 25 April every year and is generally regarded as when the country came of age. Australian troops were then sent to France and were very instrumental in halting the German advance in the spring of 1918 and turning what could have been defeat into victory by the aggressive advance in the summer/autumn of 1918. At the start of the war Australian troops were active in the Pacific in capturing the German colonies in the region such as Nauru.
