Cubism is a style of art created in 1908 by two famous painters Pablo Picasso and George Braque. They both used a lot of cubism in their paintings.

- Many think that Cubism is an art of transition, an experiment which is to bring ulterior results. Those who think that way have not understood it. Cubism is not either a seed or a fetus, but an art dealing primarily with forms, and when a form is realized it is there to live its own life… …If Cubism is an art of transition I am sure that the only thing that will come out of it is another form of Cubism (Paris 1923).

* artist quotations from 'Picasso speaks', text by Marius Zayas, in 'The Arts', New York, May 1923

Cubist painting was primarily concerned not with lifelike representation but with the depiction of forms from many angles at once. This was done through breaking up the subject into facets.

- When objects shattered into fragments appeared in my painting about 1909; this for me was a way of getting closest to the object… …Fragmentation helped me to establish space and movement in space.

* artist quote by George Braque, from "Braque", Edwin Mullins, Thames and Hudson, London 1968, p. 55

Cubist Paintings Cubism paintings are paintings which are broken up, analyzed and put together in an abstract way - Instead of drawing the picture from one angle, the artist draws the picture from loads of different views to show the object in greater detail.

Definitely and categorically none!

Simply because that is the very idea of analytical cubism.

Cubism is a nonobjective school of painting and sculpture developed in Paris in the early 20th century, characterized by the reduction and fragmentation of natural forms into abstract, often geometric structures usually rendered as a set of discrete planes.

It was started in 1908 by Picasso in cooperation with Georges Braque.

Cubism is a form of art that was started in the 20th century, and was at its largest or most popular from 1907-1914. Cubism is all about throwing perspective out of the window and showing the viewer that the are more angels to an image. Cubism breaks down shapes or images and reconstruct them in a styled manner. The idea of background and foreground is disregarded and they often merge into one. In many Cubistic artworks you can see different angles of one thing at a time. Such as the different angles in a face, a view from the top, side, diagonally, etc. Cubism was influenced by Cezanne, Matisse, and Primitive art. Many Cubistic artist used an African mask like interpretation in their artworks. Broken planes that over lap each other were painted in monochromatic colours (colours in same colour family, just different shades). Cubistic art focuses on the mind and intellect and not on emotion. It is very important for a Cubistic artwork to have a well planned composition.

What is cubizm?

Cubism was a 20th century avant-garde art movement, pioneered by Pablo Picasso and Georges Braque, that revolutionized European painting and sculpture, and inspired related movements in music and literature. The first branch of cubism, known as Analytic Cubism, was both radical and influential as a short but highly significant art movement between 1908 and 1911 in France. In its second phase, Synthetic Cubism, (using synthetic materials in the art) the movement spread and remained vital until around 1919, when the Surrealist movement gained popularity. * http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cubism
