The Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, is the largest of the Lutheran bodies. It is a liberal, main-line, Protestant denomination with over 4 million members. They follow the teachings of Martin Luther. They accept 2 sacraments-Holy Communion and Baptism. They share a close relationship with the Episcopal and United Methodist churches in rituals and liturgics. They are primarily concentrated in the upper Midwest and Eastern U.S. They have Bishops, pastors, and deacons. They use the Augsburg Confession of Faith as their prayerbook. The word "evangelical" derives from when they were in Germany. They differ from the other Lutheran branch, the Missouri Synod, who are more conservative in ritual and style of worship.
