What is God's tenth commandment in Exodus 34? |
[Edit] |
Answer
the 10th commandment is "You shall not covet".
Do not covet anything that is your neighbors’. This is greed and envy, focusing on what others have and what we don’t have. This is the one commandment that is hardest to obey. We see things every day that we want. It’s the basis of our commercial society. “Create a need then fill it.” is the lesson taught to new salespeople.
Answer
Tenth Commandment on Exodus 34; '.... Thou shalt not seethe (cook) a kid in his mother's milk."
34:26 The first of the firstfruits of thy land thou shalt bring unto the house of the LORD thy God. Thou shalt not seethe a kid in his mother's milk.
34:27 And the LORD said unto Moses, Write thou these words: for after the tenor of these words I have made a covenant with thee and with Israel.
Answer
The same command can be found in Exodus 23:14 and Deuteronomy 16:16. The context of the command lends strong support to the idea that this is directed against following idolatrous practices of the surrounding people, it is suggested that it may have been some fertility rites to cook a kid in its mother's milk. Further, there is a strong sense of contempt for the creator in such practices. God's creation is such that mother's milk is intended to be nourishment, and vital support for her young, not its destruction.
