u need the capital G. God's name is Jehovah according to psalm 83:18. That people may know that thou whose name is Jehovah are the MOST HIGH over ALL the earth. Jesus is the son of God.

A: they're other gods such as Yaweh, Buddha, Ganesha, Vishnu and other gods such as sun godds, rain gods and other gods. But there is only ONE God which is Jehovah.

Answer:

"JHVH" is His first name. It means: "Was, Is, Shall Be." The best English translation would be: "Eternal." God's first name is simply: "I AM"... He exists... He is... He's "Self-Existing." Try fathoming that one. The human mind balks at that name.

When He recruited and commissioned Moses... Moses asked by what name he would approach God's people:

"And God [Elohim] said unto Moses, I AM THAT I AM..." (Ex.3:14). Or, I AM WHO I AM.[He exists] He is "Eternal."

Then Jesus Christ, [the WORD of God, who was the Creator God of the Old Testament - John 1:3 & 10] who was talking to Moses... gave Moses His FULL NAME:

"...Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, THE LORD [JHVH, Eternal] GOD OF YOUR FATHERS, THE GOD OF ABRAHAM, THE GOD OF ISAAC, AND THE GOD OF JACOB, hath sent me unto you: THIS IS MY NAME FOR EVER, and THIS IS MY MEMORIAL UNTO ALL GENERATIONS." (Ex.3:15)

== == Exodus 3:14 And God said to Moses, "I AM WHO I AM." And He said, "Thus you shall say to the children of Israel, 'I AM has sent me to you.' " On what you said-look at Rashi. Hashem said I Will Be (with you in this suffering) that I will be (with you in future sufferings). Moshe said to Hashem that they wouldn't want to know they will have future sufferings so Hashem said I Will Be (with you in this suffering). Then Hashem says his true name which is YudKayVavKay, or Hashem. == == == == == == In The Bible, there are thousands of names for God, with 200 of them in the last book of the Bible, Revelation, just in and of itself. Yes, there is a big difference with whether or not you say "god" or "God", as the first refers to false ones, or at least those that some believe to be false, and the last one is capitalized to revere the One True God, which I personally believe, with strong verifiable reasons, to be the God of Israel, the Great I Am. As to your question, you are probably referring to Jehovah or Yahweh, though the original scribes (the old writers) never wrote the whole name with the vowels, writing it as such, Jhvh, ommitting the "e", the "o", and the "a" on purpose. One result of this purposeful misspelling is that in modern days, some translators who were unaware of this fact misread the name as "Jehovah", which is a misunderstanding of the ancient scribes' writing of "Yahweh".

They did this so that this holy name could not be taken in vain, or used to swear, as swearing/cursing needs vowels as does anything in speech. They also took a bath every time they had to write either of these names, or anything similar to these names, which led to very clean, but very pruney skin, and the need to buy more "shower supplies"! Also, the cult the Masonic Lodge has a secret name that is known only to them, until recently, and that name is Yoho (pronounced as a truly common man would call a less than reputable woman, yo ho!). This word, no doubt, comes from the Biblical name Yahweh. Other common names for God, though some refer to a particular member of the Trinity (3 persons of the Godhead, which is the same as the Trinity, or Triunity, as They are 3 person in one God) can be found all over the Bible. Some of the more famous ones are: Wonderful, Counselor, the Prince of Peace, Almighty God (specific name for the 1st person, the Father), Al Shaddai (pronounced Al shad-eye), Elohim (plural form for all Three persons), the Bright and Morning Star, Lamb of God (which is Jesus Christ, the 2nd person, the Son of God) and the Comforter (specific name for the 3rd person, the Holy Spirit/Holy Ghost, with spirit and ghost meaning exactly the same thing, regardless of how we Americans or modern people think of when we hear about ghosts, as this has nothing to do with graveyards, hauntings nor the witch's holiday, halloween).

The Answer to this Question requires a Book. Aside from the Bible, which reveals the many names of God, there are books that consolidate these names, with explanations to significance and meaning.

Elohim is the first name mentioned of God, as recorded in the Genesis account of Creation. El is the basic name for God, with Elohim, being the plural form. It is notable that this name, which being in plural form, matches the accounts in the rest of Scripture, regarding Christ, as God, creating all things, i.e., John 1:1-3,14; Colossians 1:13-19; regarding the Holy Spirit, as God, moving in Creation to perform it, i.e., Genesis 1:2; Job 33:4. Therefore, it should not be strange to see this in Genesis 1:26: " And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness..." (emphasis added to show the plural nature of God, one God, three persons).

Elohim, in plural form is sprinkled throughout Scriptures in combination of God's characteristics, such as Elohay Selichot, "God Of Forgiveness," literally: "God, Ready to Pardon," in Nehemiah 9:17.

In all, the Holy Spirit, the Spirit of God, my Spirit are names of God. The names that apply to Jesus Christ are those of God, as we find in Isaiah 9:6: "For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counselor, The Mighty God, The Everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace." Among many names for Christ, He called Himself "the Bread of Life," and "the Bright and Morning Star." John 6:35, Revelation 22:16.

God is known by too many names to be listed, but His revered name of Yahweh is most interesting, for in the original writings, it is only a tetragram: YHWH This is because the original scribes thought it too holy to write, but omitting the vowels, wrote only the consonants. In the English Bible, it is translated "Jehovah."

Various forms of Jehovah are expressed, as Jehovah Jireh, which means: "Jehovah sees (The Lord sees)," or Jehovah Tsidkenu, which means, "Jehovah, our Righteousness." Nine forms, as such, exist.

Some other names: El Shaddai, "God, our nurturer," or "All-sufficient One." Adonai, "Sovereign Ruler" or "Sovereign Master." Other forms combine El, which means "Strong One," with further characteristics, such as El Shaddai above. Hebrew names incorporated El, sy=uch as Daniel, "God is my Judge," Bethel, "House of God," or Israel, "A Prince of God."

The study of the names of God are an insight to know more about Him personally.

A:The Israelites were actually polytheistic until later in the first millennium BCE. The two principal Gods appear to have been called 'Elohim and YHWH, later becoming syncretised as one national God, YHWH, but with many lesser gods. The earlier name appears to have been 'Elohim, but YHWH is also quite early (in modern Hebrew pronunciation, this became YHVH).

Because Jews ceased to say the name YHVH aloud since before the Common Era, the pronunciation was lost and with it the knowledge of what vowels were implied in this four-consonant word, the tetragrammaton. From the poetic books of the scriptures, they believe it was pronounced 'Yahweh', and this spelling is commonly used in English translations, as well as the derivative, Jehovah.

Scholars are uncertain as to its ancient meaning for YHWH, but one meaning seriously considered is 'He blows'. This is based on archaeological evidence (see Keel and Uehlinger, Gods, Goddesses, and Images of God: In Ancient Israel) that the early role of Yahweh was as the storm God. Other possibilities include 'He is' and 'He creates'.
