The phrase "air transportation" refers to being transported (moved) through the air, usually over some distance. Some examples of air transportation are:

  1. Hot air balloon
  2. Single engine airplane
  3. Two-engine airplane
  4. Jetliner
  5. helicopter

Conversely, things like a kite, or parachute, or parachute glider are not examples of air transportation, because nothing/no one can ride in a kite, and parachutes or gliders don't let people travel over much distance.
