One that is very familiar is "Toccata and Fugue in D minor" which is widely used at Halloween and for Horror films.
Other contenders are "Jesu, Joy Of Man's Desiring" and "Air on a G String."
Bach is arguably one of the greatest and most prolific composers of all time. His most famous works include the Brandenburg Concertos, The Well-Tempered Clavier (a collection of 48 preludes and fugues), Toccata and Fugue in D Minor, Mass in B Minor, much sacred choral music, and the St Matthew Passion. He wrote Cantatas, Masses and Magnificats, Chorales, Oratorios and many other styles and forms of music. On 2 March 1713, Johann Sebastian Bach was promoted to Concert Master at Weimar, which is where he composed his "Toccatas" and some of his finest organ music.
ANSWER Many of Bach's works became famous, even before he died. While it's probably impossible to say which is the most famous, here are a few that are particularly well known: * The Brandenburg Concertos * Toccata and Fugue in d minor * "Du bist bei Mir" * Das Kleine Fugue ("the little") in G minor * "Jesu, joy of man's desire" * "That sheep may safely graze" * "Ein feiste Berg ist unser Gott"
Toccata and Fugue in D Minor for the organ. But he wrote a lot of other extremely famous pieces too. Such as:
Prelude no. 1 from The Well-Tempered Clavier
The Brandenburg Concertos
Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring
Minuet in G
The Art of Fugue
And MANY other works.
I would say the Minuet in G (BWV Anh. 114), the aforementioned Air which was not orignally just on the G string (from BWV 1068), 'Jesu Bleibet Meine Freude' (from BWV 147) and Toccata in D Minor (from BWV 565).
His music is so broad and famous, it's hard to say. In fact, he may not a have a "most famous" song, as you put it. A little research may answer your question though.

There are a few, since he was such a prolific and influential composer.
These are very famous indeed:
Toccata and Fugue in D minor
Mass in B minor
Orchestral Suites 2 (b) & 3 (D)
These are famous too but less so:
St. Johns Passion
Well Tempered Clavier Books 1&2
The Art of Fugue
Brandenburg Concertos 1-5
Solo Violin Partitias
Probably his "Toccata and Fugue" in D minor.
toccota and fuge in Dminor
Many composers wrote pieces with "Passacaglia" in the title ... Pachelbel, Buxtehude, Bach to name a few.
All of them. This is not a trick answer. Johann Sebastian Bach is the most famous of that name, but his ancestors and he and his sons all wrote music for flutes.
Bach is the master of harmony. His pieces are celestial and harmonious. All other composers like Mozart and Beethoven have greatly admired his ability to write his pieces in scales. When speaking about famous composers, it is always proper to begin with Bach. The most famous would probably either go to Mozart or Beethoven, but the pioneer was definetly Bach!!!

Bach's most famous song is Toccata and Fugue in D Minor.
Bach was most famous as an organist.
His three most famous pieces would probably be the Brandenburg Concertos, toccata and fugue and Air on a g string amongst others.
Bach wrote a number of pieces called "Aria." Perhaps his most famous one is the "Air" from the 3rd orchestral suite in D, familiarly known as "Air on the G string." The third suite was composed some time between 1717 and 1723; it's not known when it was first performed.
Many composers did, but the most famous of the composers who wrote solo works for the violin were J. S. Bach and Nicolo Paganini. Paganini's works are very difficult, however. Another well-known one is Fritz Kreisler.
J.S. Bach was a very prolific (and great) composer. He wrote over a thousand pieces! He wrote famous pieces for choir, solo instruments (like organ and violin), and orchestra. He is best known for his contrapuntal style (countering voices). His most notable works are: Brandenberg Concertos, Well-Tempered Clavier, English Suites, French Suites Cello Suites, Mass in b minor, and Tocatta and Fugue in d minor, among many others.
