Little Joe's horse was named Cochise. The real first horse he rode, was stabbed to death by a deranged man. There were at least 4 and perhaps as many as 12 horses used for Little Joe, but all of them went by the name Cochise. www.bonanzaworld.net

I just watched an episode on TV Land and it was the one where Little Joe rode up to the house and got throwed off by his horse. When Ben came to him to help, he said he was alright but wanted to know about COCHISE
