Little Joe Cartwright always rode a black-and-white pinto named Cochise. There were at least 4 horses from Fat Jones Stables used during the early years, and possibly as many as 12 horses as the series came to an end after 14 seasons (430 episodes).
Over the 14 years Bonanza was on the air there were numerous horses used, all with different names. But the fictional name for all of them was Cochise.
