Mesopotamia literally means "Land Between Two Rivers" in Greek because it was between the Tigris and Euphrates Rivers. There are also two nicknames historians give Mesopotamia, the "Fertile Crescent" (because the Mesopotamian civilization was shaped like a crescent and the land was fertile) and the "Cradle of Civilization" (because civilization was "born" in Mesopotamia).
