Field Artilleryman/parachute qualified
The real answerArmy enlisted Military Occupational Specialty codes are this long, drawn out thing. Let's look at one...
[98G] is your Military Occupational Skill for linguist] 3 is your Grade/Rank. L for language/ K3 is another Skill identifier as K3 was Electronic Countermeasures Operator. Parachutist for Airborne. Golf for Ranger if your a leg. Vector is the correct Identifier for Airborne/Ranger. Be, Know and Do. Su Ponte
If you were in the army, Living the life of an Airborne Ranger is one way and school is totally opposite.
The first two characters are usually the Career Management Field the soldier is in, in this case Signals Intelligence. Within that field there are several MOS, and this person is a Linguist--MOS 98G.
The next character is the skill level--1 is private through specialist, 2 is sergeant, 3 is staff sergeant, 4 is sergeant first class and 5 is master sergeant or sergeant major. This troop is a staff sergeant.
After that is the Skill Qualification Identifier. This person is a linguist, so he has a language skill--SQI L. You can have several SQI, but the highest-ranking one will be listed in your MOS. For instance, if this troop was an Airborne (SQI P) Ranger (SQI V) he would be a 98G30V-TA for Tagalog or any other language. not a 98G3L. SQIs are MOS-independent; anyone can go to airborne school, for instance.
The next two characters are the additional skill indicator. In this case, the sergeant attended the Electronic Warfare Operator's Course, and graduating from it gets you the K3. In the really old days, K3 was Electronic Countermeasures Operator, and you had to go to jamming school to receive it. Now, all 98Gs go to EWOC to learn how to go to the field before they get sent to a permanent party unit...because 98G school is taught in a huge brick building on Goodfellow AFB, Texas. ASIs are very MOS-dependent; a cook wouldn't need ASI Z6 (military working dog handler)--only an MP would.
The last two are the language identifier, in this case Russian.
Given all that, why is MOS 13A1P nonsense? MOS 13A is Field Artillery Officer, and officer MOS are only three characters long.
The first part of the answer is correct, 13A1P is a Vietnam War era MOS code for an enlisted field artillery man with additional specialty.
Answer:Keeping it simple and short: 11B30VTA / 11B30VW9 this means that you are also High Attitude Low Opening and a Combat Diver. See how simple it is.11 Bravo for InfantrymanRank is: Staff SergeantGrade would be: E-6Special Skill Identifier: Parachutist for Airborne2nd Skill Identifier: (Golf if you are not airborne qualified for short your a >leg Ranger. Airborne Ranger has the Vector Identifier that means you are on jump status in a airborne unit. Ranger Battalion or Regiment and Special Ops unit......It's not the Vietnam War era anymore. In the Modern Action Army, 13A is a Field Artillery Officer. Now...if you would have said 13B1P, that's different: 13B is Cannon Crewman, the 1 means Skill Level 1--private through specialist or corporal--and the P is for Parachutist. And you'd find this gentleman right on Fort Bragg.
