NetViz is a network visualization software package that's nearing end-of-life. It is, however, still a powerful and viable tool for documenting, visualizing, and distributing your network infrastructure. NetViz takes data from an ODBC compliant database and links it to diagrams you create of your network nodes and links. It supports interdiagram links, data refresh, and nested drawings, allowing you to start depicting a network at a global level and taking it down to component or even pin level detail. A pretty slick package. NetViz was developed around 1999 or so (IIRC) and was subsequently purchased by Concord and then CA. It is still widely in use but is no longer being actively supported.

How do you do simple floor plans using netviz?

What we used to do when doing a project involving floor plans with NetViz, was to have a team of AutoCAD designers quickly draw up the floor plans. I believe NetViz was able to actually import these files directly, but it was quite a long time ago, so possibly the drawings need to be exported to another file format first. A good AutoCAD designer should be able to pump out simple one-layered floorplans in no-time at all.

What happened to a network documentation tool called netViz?

It was purchased by Concord communications which was then purchased by CA. http://www.ca.com/us/content/campaign.aspx?cid=166939
