SOL's do not apply to traffic violations. The traffic citation will remain valid until it is paid. The longer violations go unpaid the more costly they become, the amount of fine can include the original violation charge plus court and administrative costs, and additional penalties as state laws deem applicable.

Why did this not show up when renewing license. Ticket is 7 yrs old

As such, a traffic ticket does not expire and is not subject to a statute of limitations. The statute of limitations is to prevent one from being accused of a crime when the witnesses may no longer be available and defense difficult. In this case, you have already been notified of the violation and have not defended against it in the time allotted. A traffic ticket is a notice of violation. Some jurisdictions will stop trying to collect, or declare on amnesty on tickets on a specific time frame.

There is no statute of limitations on traffic tickets. If you don't pay it or show up in court to fight it, they can (and probably will) revoke your license and issue a warrant for your arrest.

There are no SOL associated with a ticket. You have been given the notice required and now must either pay the fine or appear in court. It doesn't expire.

No, there is not. The statute is applied to receiving notice of having violated the law, and a ticket has notified you that you have violated the law.
