An orchioplexy is done to correct undescended testicles in young children. It may also be done in adults or older children for testicular torsion which is considered to be a medical emergency because it cuts off the blood supply to the affected testicle.

An orchiopexy is a surgery to move an undescended testicle from the abdominal cavity and put it in the scrotum. This is usually done when the child is around 2 years old, because the longer the testicle remains in the body the more likely it will become cancerous. A testicle is supposed to be permanently descended by the age of 1.
