The state motto of Oregon has changed 3 times since the creation of the Oregon territory. The first motto "She Flies with Her Own Wings" was adopted in 1854 because in the spring of 1843 Oregon was experiencing alot of political disorganization and disagreement over whether they would remain under the rule of Britain or the United States. In May of 1843 the people of Oregon came together to vote on these issues and determined that they would not be under the rule of Britain or the USA but rather be independent and only be governed by there own legislations. The adoption of this motto in 1854 was a reflection of that event. In 1957 the motto was changed to "The Union" said to be reflective of the concerns about slavery in Oregon. But in 1987 it was proposed that the motto return back to "She Flies with Her Own Wings" and the change was made and it remains the motto today.
The state motto is "She Flies With Her Own Wings" and "The Union", but it's known as the "Beaver state". It is the only state where both side of the state flag have a different picture. One side has the state seal, the other side has the beaver.
The answer is actually "She Flies With Her Own Wings" and was adopted in 1987.
