PPROM is an acronym for Preterm Premature Rupture of Membranes.

To explain it, we should break it apart:

* Rupture of membranes (ROM) is the normal breaking of the amniotic membranes that occurs during labor. Most people call this "breaking their water." * Premature rupture of membranes (PROM) occurs when the amniotic membranes are ruptured (water breaks) before actual labor has started. Sometimes, physicians may rupture membranes prematurely in an attempt to induce or augment the labor process. PROM indicates this was not an intentional ROM * Preterm premature rupture of membranes (PPROM) indicates that there is premature rupture of membranes before the child has been carried to term (> 36 weeks gestation).

How many babies were born in Seattle June 25 2008?

Prematurity is a tragedy. Preemies face many more issues than full term babies, and extremely premature babies like Noah rarely escape without some sort of long term consequences. Life will always be more of a challenge for Noah, and more of a challenge for me because he came into my life. That just means that we'll develop strong characters along the way - something that's sorely lacking in our society today. Raising an extremely premature son isn't easy. I wouldn't have picked it for myself if given a choice. No one would. But Noah has given me the ability to be thankful for every little thing in my life and for that I am eternally grateful. Benjamin, an amazing micro-preemie, was born at 23 weeks and 3 days gestation on February 7th, 2011 - weighing in at 1 lbs, 12 oz. He is a real fighter and has beaten so many odds already, including PPROM at 19 weeks gestation. Amelia Elizabeth was born on April 2, 2009 at 12:08 am. She finally made it home after a NICU stay of 335 days. We are so happy to finally be together as a family. Amelia has grown to be a very happy, joyful and social baby. We are thankful for all the people that worked together with Amelia to bring her home safely. Now the fun begins!

What are three things that could cause a premature birth?

Three causes of premature birth include 1. Preterm premature rupture of membranes (PPROM), where the bag of waters surrounding the baby breaks prematurely for unknown causes or due to infection 2. Medically indicated preterm birth, where the baby must be delivered prematurely due to maternal or fetal complications, such as preeclampsia or hemorrhage in the mother or a compromise in fetal well-being 3. Incompetent cervix, where the cervix opens prematurely Spontaneous preterm birth, in which there is no known cause, accounts for approximately 40% of all cases of premature delivery.
