RP means roleplaying. It can refer to a type of game in which players take on the role of a character or group of characters (mostly called RPG - role playing game) that follows a story through a world.
RP can also be more dedicated roleplaying, with players staying in character during the whole playing time and not doing things their character wouldn't. MMO's sometimes have RP servers, in which players are encouraged to stay in character.
When done in the real world, roleplaying becomes LARP - live action roleplaying.
