Here's a longish summary of Rick I did as a assignment. Rick Riordan is a writer born in San Antonio, Texas on June 5,1964. At school, he never liked reading. He thought they were boring and made no sense. He never reads much until he was eleven or twelve, in middle school. Riordan was also a quiet type of kid. He would be inside reading or playing with Lego's, rather than playing football outside.

He went to Alamo Heights High School in San Antonio. There, he wrote the school newspaper and won third place in UIL writing. He also participated in an underground newspaper that made fun of the school.

Riordan graduated from high school and started college at North Texas State, because he thought he wanted to be a guitarist. He had a beard, mustache, long hair, and dreams about being a major artist. Then, he changed his mind and decided to become a teacher. He transferred to the University of Texas at Austin and graduated with a double major in English and history. He was certified to teach English and history at the San Antonio Independent School District, or S.A.I.S.D. He taught for many years, sometimes moving from place to place. Some of his ides and inspiration were from teaching with students. Once he was writing two or three books a year to keep up with his deadlines, he quit teaching.

The first book Riordan read for fun was Lord of the Rings. He mainly read fantasy, Science Fiction, and mysteries, which lead to him liking Greek and Norse mythology. Riordan's parents, Jason and Brina, were both teachers and artists., which gave him giant inspiration.

Riordan tried to publish one of his works when he was thirteen but failed. Rick Riordan wrote his first book in his first series in May 1985, Big Red Tequila in the Tres Navere Series for adults, which won the Shamus Award and the Anthony Award in 1998. He continued the series with six other books: The Widower's Two-Step, The Last King of Texas, The Devil Went Down To Austin, Southtown, Mission Road, and Rebel Island in the years June 1998 through August 2007. In 1999, he won the Edgar Award for Best Paperback Original for The Widower's Two-Step.

When he was in college, he taught at a camp called Camp Capers, where he got the idea for Camp Half-Blood from the Percy Jackson series he wrote. His books in that series were The Lightning Thief, which became a movie, The Sea of Monsters, The Titan's Curse, The Battle of the Labyrinth, and The Last Olympian. He wrote these books from June 28, 2005 to May 5, 2009. This series is based on Greek mythology. In 2008, he won the Mark Twain Award for The Lightning Thief; in 2009, he won the Mark Twain Award again for The Sea of Monsters. Also in 2009, he won the Rebecca Caudill Award for The Lightning Thief. Riordan's first book, The Lightning Thief, became so successful that in 2010 movie producers turned it into a movie. The second book, The Sea of Monsters, is expected to come out sometime in 2012.

Riordan also wrote companion or guide books to better help explain his main books. These books are used as a guide to the main series. He wrote The Demigod Files in February 10, 2009, Demigods and Monsters, also on February 10, 2009, and Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Ultimate Guide on January 19, 2010. The books have images and further reading on characters and places.

When the Percy Jackson series ended, he continued it with the book, The Lost Hero. The second book, The Son of Neptune, is expected to come out some time in 2012. This series is called the Heroes Of Olympus. It has the same topic as the Percy Jackson series, but mainly with different characters, though some past characters are mentioned. This series is expected to have five books.

After writing the Percy Jackson series, Rick actually went to Italy and Greece. He sees a little bit of himself in his character Percy Jackson because he has a sense of humor, wasn't very good in school, and Rick taught students that were ADHD/dyslexia. His own son also had ADHD/dyslexia.

On September 9, 2008, he also got to write the first book in the 39 Clues series, The Maze of Bones. Then, he wrote an introduction for the Black Book of Buried Secrets on October 26, 2010. He also was one of the four writers to write Vespers Rising on April 5, 2011. This was a series about two characters that go around the world, trying to find thirty-nine clues that will lead to a prize.

Successful with his first three series, he began The Kane Chronicles in May 4, 2010. His first book was The Red Pyramid. His second book was The Throne of Fire, published on May 3, 2011. This series is based on Egyptian mythology. This series is expected to have three books.

Riordan has a wife named Becky, one daughter named Haley, and a son named Patrick. They live in San Antonio with his Golden Labrador Sunny, and two cats: Slinky and Yoshi.

Riordan does not have a favorite book because he likes them all the same. His two favorite characters to write about are Grover and Tyson. In his spare time, he likes to read, swim, play guitar, and travel with his family. He also likes to play World of Warcraft or games on the Wii with his kids. Riordan is still alive today and is still writing at the age of 46, turning 47 this summer.

How many chapters in the throne of fire?

If you go to Rick Riordan's site by simply googling (or binging I guess) Rick Riordan and go to the link that says "Welcome to the Online World of Rick Riordan!" Simply click there. If you go to the Kane Chronicles section you'll find Throne of Fire and if you go to the end of the summary (or whatever it is) on that page it'll say that you can read the first two chapters on some Disney website.
