What is the United States Special Operations Command?
US Special Operations Command (SOCOM) is a Unified Combatant Command (all major combat branches have forces within this command). They are in charge of overseeing all of the Special Operations Commands of each of the branches (ie. MARSOC, AFSOC, etc.). It was created after Operation Eagle Claw failed, which involved units that had never trained and operated together before. One of SOCOM's main roles is to coordinate joint efforts between special operations units of different branches. For example, if SEAL Team 3 and the 1st Ranger Battalion were going to perform an operation together, SOCOM would be in charge of overseeing the operation, not USASOC(Army) or NSWC(Navy), respectively.

The US Navy SEALs likely have the best "standard" sniper program with both the best equipment and a relatively long and very intense initial course. Also, NAVSPECWAR (SEALs) tends NOT to be tied to a doctrinal use of snipers allowing them significant flexibility in their training program. This also lends itself to quick transformation of their training and rapid application of combat lessons-learned. This quick flexibility in their program makes for likely better trained personnel. Once personnel are "sniper qualified", the NAVSPECWAR personnel have significant shooting/training opportunities to keep currency and improve upon their skills unlike some service's personnel, including other SOCOM assets. Of course, this can be argued by the other services (Army, SOCOM, & USMC). There are also Tier-1 and Other Government Agency (OGA) military sniper programs which are specific to anti-terrorism units and they get the best training and equipment in the world, but are not necessarily a reflection of the service's normal sniper production pipeline.

SOCOM has approximately 66,000 people, as of early 2014. This includes all five component commands: USASOC, NSWC, AFSOC, MARSOC, and JSOC. However, not all of these 66,000 servicemembers are operators. This number includes support and command personnel as well. The US military has about 2.3 million people across the active, reserve, and guard forces. Therefore, SOF personnel account for approximately 3% of the US military.

It depends on their job. If you are talking about the guys on the ground, they are called Special Tactics Airmen. The specific jobs for them are Combat Controllers, TACPs, and Pararescuemen. All Combat Control Teams are AFSOC units. Only one TACP unit is with SOCOM - 17th Air Support. The rest belong to Air Combat Command, or ACC. Pararescuemen, or PJs, deal with personnel recovery and MEDEVACs. They are placed in either the Rescue Squadrons under ACC or the Special Tactics Squadrons under AFSOC. Some PJs and CCTs are also with JSOC as part of 24th Special Tactics.

It's a game about US Navy Seals, the army of USA. I think the main character is Calvin Wraith in the Socom series because Wraith is in every one of the series. It's a fun game.
