What is Sarah Palin's stance on abortion and birth control? In: Birth Control, Abortion, Sarah Palin
|
Sarah is not just a "pro-life" politician, her life has been model for all others in the "pro-life" movement. Her 5th child, Trig, was born with Down syndrome. The New York Times reports that as many as 90 percent of children that are determined to have a high risk of Down syndrome by in utero testing are aborted (see Related Links).
About 90 percent of pregnant women who are given a Down syndrome diagnosis have chosen to have an abortion.
Sarah Palin was asked during a debate in 2006 whether she would allow her daughter to have an abortion, even in the event the daughter was raped. She replied, "I would choose life." The Anchorage Daily News reported the exchange in this article:

One of Sarah Palin's daughters, Bristol, became pregnant in the spring of 2008, and Bristol has chosen to give birth to the baby and marry the father. The latest statistics from Planned Parenthood's Guttamacher Institute indicate that 28 percent of all pregnancies among girls 15-19 end in abortion.

Sarah Palin strongly opposes sex education programs that do not include abstinence. She has also said she does not support using taxpayer dollars to distribute contraception in schools.
Sarah Palin is a member of Feminists for Life, a group that forcefully opposes abortion and forms of birth control it views as equivalent to abortion, such a emergency contraception.

What is Feminists for Life's position on contraception?
Feminists for Life's mission is to address the unmet needs of women who are pregnant or parenting. Preconception issues including abstinence and contraception are outside of our mission. Some FFL members and supporters support the use of non-abortifacient contraception while others oppose contraception for a variety of reasons. FFL is concerned that certain forms of contraception have had adverse health effects on women.
