A1 paper is the second largest standard uniform size of paper.
A0 paper has a area of 1 square meter.
A1 has a size of 59.46 x 84.09 cm.
Its half the size of A0 and twice the size of A3 which is twice the size of A4.
The a series is one of a number of paper sizes. There are 2^n pieces in 1m^2, and the ratio of the sides are 1.414:1. (or 0.707:1.). So there are 2^4 (= 16) A4 sheets in 1m^2.
There are another couple of standard sizes in the ISO216 paper size standard.
The B series is the geometric mean of two adjacent A series sheets. So B1 is between A0 and A1, with an area of 0.707m^2.
The C series is the geometric mean of the A and B series of the same number. This size is used as the basis for envelopes, thus an A4 page will fit inside a C4 envelope.
This system means that an A4 sheet when folded is now A5 size. Or two A5 sheets may be cut exactly from an A4 sheet.
Commonly a sheet of paper will weigh 80 gsm - grams per square metre, and since there are 2^4 sheets of paper (16) to the m^2, then an individual sheet will be 1/16 of 80 g, = 5 g. Handy for mailing weights.
A2 plus paper measures 17 x 24 inches or 432 x 610 millimeters.
