What is a Democrat?

Answer:
A democrat
Generically, a democrat is a person who believes political or social equality of all the people within a country. Most countries have political parties representing democratic principles.

A Democrat
A Democrat (capitalized) is a person belonging to the Democratic Party, the larger of the two major political parties of the US. Its national platform is more progressive, or more liberal, than its major opposition, the Republican Party. The party began as the Anti-Federalists, who supported a strict interpretation of the Constitution, and opposed a powerful federal government. Following the Civil War, the Democrats received much of the Southern vote in response to the excesses of Radical Reconstruction. Beginning with the Great Depression, Democratic administrations have increasingly supported government involvement in the regulation of business, and in addressing social inquality and minority rights.
