A Mihrab or mehraab is a niche or mark in the wall of a mosque that faces Mecca and indicates the direction Muslims should pray. Mihrabs first began appearing 8th-9th centuray and were copied from similar niches found in Coptic Christian churches but which pointed to Jerusalem.
