What is a Narscissist?

A narcissist is one who is exceptionally vain, and is usually educated and blessed with good looks.

Answer

A narcissist is a person who loves him or herself exceedingly or exclusively. Some psychiatric literature refers to Narcissistic Personality Disorder. The name comes from the mythological Greek youth Narcissus (Narkissos) who fell in love with his image when looking at it reflected on the surface of a stream. Narke is Greek for drowsiness, lethargy (hence narcotic), but it may be doubtful whether the words are related as -issos is considered by mainstream linguistics to be a Pre-Hellenic (non-Greek) suffix, which would make the whole word non-Greek. There are many place names even in Modern Greece that retain their names ending in -ssos, for example the town of Ialyssos on Rhodes, the suburb of Athens named Perissos, the Cypriot city of Lemessos (Limassol) and the word that gave English cypress, namely kyparissos.
