Batik is a type of textile that uses wax-resisting technique. It has been both an art and a craft for centuries in the Malay Archipelago. In Java, Indonesia, batik is part of an ancient tradition, and some of the finest batik cloth in the world is still made there. The state of Terengganu in Malaysia also produces distinct batik designs. Batik is still popular in Indonesia, Malaysia and Brunei where women wear it as sarong and traditional costumes.



The late Datin Seri Endon Mahmud launced a campaign in 2005 to introduce batik to the world and now it is can be seen on runways and has been among the preffered textile by various fashion designers.
