A bedroom is a closed of area in a house or other human dwelling in which people sleep.
A bedroom is a room for sleeping in.
What is considered a bedroom is also determined by your local health department, for example a room in the home could be called a bedroom if it meets any of the following requirements:
- Be a habitable or planned habitable space per the local Building Code.
- Provide privacy. For example, it has a door that can be closed (This is the difference between a bedroom and living room. A living room usually has a 5 foot opening.)
- Have convenient access to a full bathroom (containing either a bathtub or shower). The bathroom does not always have to be attached to the bedroom or even on the same floor of the house.
- Entry is from a common area, not through a room already deemed a bedroom.
It is also important to know that if your home has a septic system, the septic system must be large enough to accommodate every bedroom in the home. For example: if your septic system can handle a maximum of 3 bedrooms, you might not be able to add a 4th bedroom.
