One form of fossil forms when an organism dies and its body is covered by layers of sediment. As time passes, the organism itself, particularly when composed primarily of softer materials, is eroded and carried away, leaving a negative imprint of its body. This type of fossil is called a mold. A cast fossil forms when a mold fossil is filled with some form of mineral, usually through the seepage of water depositing the minerals within the mold. In time, the mold is filled and the materials deposited harden, creating a replica of the original fossil. This is called a cast fossil.
a cast fossil is an imprint in rock of a shell, bone, etc.

The most common four types of fossils are:mold fossils(a fossilized impression made in the substrate - a negative image of the organism)cast fossils(formed when a mold is filled in)trace fossils = ichnofossils(fossilized nests, gastroliths, burrows, footprints, etc.)true form fossils(fossils of the actual animal or animal part).

Mold fossils are impressions from when the plant or animal first decomposed. Cast fossils are plant or animal remains. True-form fossils are remaining body parts from an animal. Trace fossils are marks that have been left by animal, such as footprints.

There are a variety of types of fossils. These include cast fossils, mold fossils, petrified wood, as well as fossil fuels.

Fossils are classified into three. Here is the fossil type and example(s): cast fossils (filled in with molds), trace fossils (burrows, gastroliths, footprints), and true form fossils (real animal or real animal part).
There are four types of fossils that can be found. These are true fossils, mold fossils, trace fossils and cast fossils.
All are indicative of the size and shape and possible habitat of the original organism.
