A competent question is a question that is asked and makes sense with as much proper spelling as is possible. Some people drag their questions out to a point where we the people who answer these questions haven't a clue as to what the person wants us to answer.

For instance in the section that covers jobs. Many people who write questions in that area ask. Where do you want to be in 5 years from now? It's not a matter of where I want to be, it's where they want to be, so to ask the question the correct way, they could write, How would I know where I will be in 5 years from now? Then it makes sense and we can answer it.
