Marble is a metamorphic rock which is a product of natural exposure deep underground to intense heat and pressure on limestone or dolostone, both sedimentary rocks. The minerals calcite or dolomite that are present in the limestone or dolostone are recrystallized, causing them to be larger and interlocked. Marble is found in a variety of colors including Snow White, marbled white, pink, green, brown and gray. Because of its interlocking crystalline structure and relative softness, the rock marble is very desirable for stone sculpture, artwork, and decorative building components.

marble is a (contact) metamorphic rock, caused by intense heating of limestone, causing the melting and recrystallisation of chemicals in the rock. It has fine, interlocking crystals and a grainy, white texture.

Hope this helps :)
