A 'drive' is often referred to as a partition of a harddrive. It is anything that has data written to or read from. The 'C' drive is the most common example of a partitioned harddrive. Also included in drives would be your DVD/CD player/burner. There are also networked drives where you have access to physical hard drive space through a local area network (usually schools or corporations use these to keep files secured and backed up). All drives are often assigned a single letter of the alphabet. I have never experienced any computer where it used more than the 26 letters of the alphabet.
