Emo is a slang term for emotional. Emos are usually thought of as being freaks who cut themselves but this is just a stereotype. Some emos do cut themselves but not all because it is just an option in being emo. Some emos like me can be very happy and social with people who aren't emo. They may date someone who isn't emo. But most people who are just becoming emo are very depressed, quiet, and sensitive. They will also isolate themselves from their family sometimes. They often have heavy thoughts of suicide and may attempt it. Emos who stay this way usually come from a broken home. But most emos stay this way for about a year or two then become more social but keeping their emo style.

Emos usually wear dark clothing with bright colors. Skinny jeans, Converse high tops, and t-shirts are main clothing items that emos wear.

Emos usually have short black hair but there are a lot of different emo haircuts for guys and girls.

Emos generally listen to screamo bands such as Bring Me the Horizon, Escape the Fate, Flyleaf, and Evanescence. But emo music started back in the 1980s.
