Use a product advertised to clean and protect. No facetiousness intended, but stainless steel is not stainless. See link.
A terrific way to clean stainless steel appliances is ----------- a few drops (not too many) of olive oil on a paper towel or soft cloth cleans range hoods, microwaves, cook tops, etc so well they are as good as a mirror!!
