What are some good roleplay starters?

1. Begin with a character introduction: "Hello there, I'm [character name], a [brief description of character]."
2. Set the scene: "You find yourself in a mysterious forest, surrounded by ancient trees and the sound of rustling leaves."
3. Pose a question or dilemma: "As you wander through the forest, you stumble upon a hidden cave. Do you enter or continue on your journey?"

These starters can help set the tone and direction for an engaging roleplay session.

Something that's new, not cliché. Unique. Creative. And something people haven't thought of before. Dark vs. Light is always a good one, but can get boring after a while. Rather settle with something "grey" and brand new. Let's take the typical "zombie apocalypse" plot. It started with a virus that spread. What if it weren't the typical "random scientist makes a virus and accidentally lets it out," but rather some sort of evolved form of a common sickness? Small changes like that are alwaysinteresting.

Here's a good link to show you how writers come up with ideas -- being a good gamemaster is just like being a writer. You have to take ideas that are all around you and ask "what if?" to come up with a good roleplaying game scenario.

I recently started a Role Play game online, and I have it where everyone is descendants of Fairy Tale characters - i.e., Rapunzel, Sleeping Beauty, Jack and The Bean Stalk, Thumbelina, etc.

One of my friends also had a role playing game where it was Halloween night and at midnight, everyone turned into what they were dressed as.

What I would suggest, though, is that either you come up with an idea of your own, or ask the other players for scenario ideas, then choose the one you like best.
