It depends on what veggies are in your pot pie. If you put enough veggies in the pie, you don't need a side dish--at my house the whole point is to have a one-dish meal. But if you have a very meaty pie (and thus, necessarily, light on veggies) you could serve any vegetable with it. Try to go with deep-colored vegetables or crisp vegetables to complement the (presumably) golden, flaky crust.

I like to think that shepherds pie is just a bunch of sides mixed together anyways so i do not think that there really is need for one though.

Chicken pot pie is usually considered a one-dish meal since the only major food group that is not truly represented is dairy. However, depending on its ingredients, you could add another vegetable to round out the meal, and then serve a dairy dessert if you like. My personal favorites with this meal are a side of steamed broccoli, and a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
We always eat Cottage Cheese with our pot pies sometimes we will add some Macaroni and Cheese, but adding it has so many calories
