Hawks build a nest in a tall tree or on the side of a cliff. A lair is usually thought of as a cave or den, used by ground dwelling animals. If they are not nesting, they will roost at night in tall trees hidden by leaves. Hawks do not see well at night, their eyes are made for detecting movement during daytime. They are vulnerable to predators at night, so it is important that they find safe places off the ground to sleep.
