You can give your horse any show name you want, but usually to find the horses show name you can look on his/her passport and their official name is the one you use for shows with them.
But if you dont like your horses official/show name, you can get it changed but it is considered bad luck to change your horses official name.

Evan is obviously a barn name for the horse. Since he's an OTTB you could look for his lip tattoo and if you can clearly make it out you can contact the Jockey Club with that number to get his full registered name and use that as a show name. If the tattoo is indistinguishable then you could (if you know who they are of course) use the horses sire's and dam's names to come up with something usable. Show names are fairly personal and only you can decide what to call your horse in the end. The name should fit the horse and his unique personality.

It is a type of horse show that has many classes, and in some of the classes you do, you show that your horse can be versatile and do many different things. eg. veteran classes, (which is where you show how good your horse is for their age - over 15's only), you show that your horse can do lots of things even though he is considered an old horse.
A good name for any horse is up to the owner. Name it something you like and can live with. Many horses have long show or registered names and then a shorter barn name.

Just about any horse can be shown in a horse show. There are even shows for model horses. The horse should be suitable for the type of classes you want to show in, but other than that there really aren't any restrictions unless the show is breed specific.
