What is a live virus vaccines?

A live virus vaccine is one that uses a living virus to confer immunity. Live virus vaccines therefore can be contagious to other people or other parts of the body for a short time after vaccination. Care should be taken to avoid transmition.

Keep the area clean and dry, and avoid contact with the area around the vaccination point.

Some examples of vaccines that contain live virus are smallpox, measles, mumps, rubella, and chicken pox.
