A Performance track is a pre-recorded or arranged part of music that is played alongside live performances like concerts, in order to add extra effects or backround music that would be otherwise difficult or impossible to pull off with live instruments. This includes the use of any synthesized music or orchestras, etc. Nowadays, performance tracks are all on a computer, and are played along with a click-track that keeps time. So basically, for anything that can't be done live and needs to be pre-recorded, a performance track can be used to make things easier.
