A petticoat is an article of clothing for women, specifically an undergarment to be worn under a skirt or a dress. The petticoat is a separate garment hanging from the waist.

What does Molly Pitcher's grave say?

•"Drunk in a beverage richer and stronger than was poured that day from Molly Pitcher's pitcher." & •"While in the act of reaching for a cartridge, a cannon shot from the enemy passed directly between her legs without doing any other damage than carrying away all the lower part of her petticoat. Looking at it with apparent unconcern, she observed that it was lucky it did not pass a little higher, for in that case it might have carried away something else."

What did Victorian chidren wear?

I ASKED THT X =] I assume you mean 18th century Europe/ America. Children dressed very similarly to their parents. They wore stays, which is a garment similar to a corset that helps one's posture. Girls would wear these for the rest of their life, while boys will eventually stop wearing them. Boys and girls dressed the same. They both wore girls cloths, until ages 5 or 7, when a boy would start wearing breaches or trousers. A child's outfit would be made up of a shift, the undermost garment, and a peticoat and shortgown, bedgown, or other form of jacket OR a gown, usually one-pieced for children. I think boys wore caps, but I'm not sure. They would also probably wear aprons, pockets, stockings, shoes, ect. Very young children would wear pudding caps, which are hats that cusion a baby's head when they fall. I'm not sure about babies clothing, but I know that it includes a clout. I hope this helped.

What is the traditional costume in Czech Republic?

The traditional Slovak clothing is called Kroj. (pronounced kroy, and kroje is plural) Every region has its own disinct kroj and each one is absolutely beautiful. The men wear wool pants, usually off white, with red embroidered decoration, a wide belt, and black hat. Some wear heavy coats/capes as well. The women's clothing is usually very brightly decorated, although some regions dress in darker colors. The skirts have many layers of "peticoat" underneath so they stick out from the body. The skirts are usually knee length or a little more. The blouses are usually linen (for both men and women) and the women's blouses are decorated with embroidery and ribbon. Both men and women typically wear high black boots (to the knee). The most interesting, perhaps, is that Slovaks used to be able to tell where a person was from by there kroj. In addition, every piece of the outfit was symbolic. For example, the type of women's hat will tell if she is married or single, and the decoration will tell you how many children she has, or when a woman becomes a widow, she wears a black kroj-sometimes for the rest of her life, such as my husband's grandmother.etc. The men's costumes have symbolism as well.
