What is a quilt?

A quilt (pr. kwilt) is like a blanket or coverlet for a bed made of a decorative, patterned top constructed of individually sewn fabric pieces; a cotton or wool batting center; and a (usually) plain back made of cotton or muslin, assembled in layers. The "quilting" is the pattern of stitches used to sew the layers together.
