Magic is the manipulation of naturally occurring forces or powers, by the hand and will of an ethical practitioner. A spell is one of the means by which it is done.

Usually a spell involves:

- a firm idea of what you want to do. Being certain you are not planning on interfering with anyone else's free will or safety. And keeping in mind the Rule of Three.

- study of the time (moon placement & phase, day etc) most beneficial to your outcome.

- acquiring the herbs, incense, oils, papers, powders, candles etc. most beneficial to your outcome.

- A written format, including all items used, timing, and wording of your spell - this is usually written and kept in your Book of Shadows, in order that you may repeat, refine, or reverse your spell.

- you then, at the appointed time, perform your spell according to your written plan. Creating sacred space, calling the elements, calling your Deities, performing your "Working," raising, focusing, and releasing your power, grounding the excess energies, celebrating the small feast, acknowledging the help of your Deities, thanking and dismissing the elements, disolving sacred space and cleaning up.

- the next element is the most often neglected and yet one of the most important elements of a successful spell... Act in accordance.

- revisit your spell one day, one week and one month later to see how it is progressing.

Magic spells come in many forms. The easiest is a wish (much like a prayer) spoken with conviction and asked with the best of intent.
The next easiest is candle magic. A candle is chosen with the correct colour, anointed with the correct oil and lit at the correct time depending on the "need" of the spell. Beyond that are thousands of more complex spells, done for any number of "needs" by whom ever requires them and is willing and able to research, design and perform them. The common thread in all is the will of the practitioner. When undertaking a spell, I recommend you work for yourself - if you r work for another it must be with their complete knowledge and permission - that you are sure of your intent and your ethics and you always take into account the Rule of Three.
