a person who regards or treats members of a different religious belief with hatred and intolerance.
AnswerJohn 14:6 (King James Version)6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.This is one of the most extreme claims ever made by anyone, which, as C. S. Lewis has pointed out, would be sheer lunacy if not true.
The manner in which Christians are to propagate their faith is to be marked by attitudes taught by their master.
1 Peter 3:15 (King James Version)15 But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear:The words meekness and fear are also translated elsewhere as gentleness and reverence. Thus, in both the verse above and that below there is no room for religious bigotry in the Christian faith.l

Matthew 10:16 (King James Version)16Behold, I send you forth as sheep in the midst of wolves: be ye therefore wise as serpents, and harmless as doves. The problem rises when many apply the term 'bigot' in a pejorative sense to anyone who doesn't agree with their particular view. Thus all Christians, particularly The Bible-believing variety, are labeled as religious bigots when they are nothing of the kind. That some have undoubtedly descended to this in the true sense has certainly occurred and probably is occurring today. It is really the attitude that makes all the difference. However sometimes the wrong attitude may not be coming from the Christian but from the person who detests or is challenged by their message. So this is a very difficult area with which to deal as there is obviously a degree of subjective judgment as to what is, in actual practice a 'bigot'.
Most certainly through history many have departed from the meek spirit of Jesus Christ and practiced religious bigotry to a devastating degree (e.g. inquisition and crusades). This constitutes a severe offense to non-Christians and Christians alike. However, it is certainly true that many like to use religion as a justification for their own personal hatred and prejudices and that their actions do not justly represent their supposed master.
Matthew 5:39 (King James Version)39 But I say unto you, That ye resist not evil: but whosoever shall smite thee on thy right cheek, turn to him the other also. Luke 9:56 (King James Version)56 For the Son of man is not come to destroy men's lives, but to save them.... AnswerEven though religious people should not attack other's beliefs, and instead save them, I cannot count the number that have condemned me and my peers because we believe things different from what they are taught. No amount of words thrown at me will change my views away from science, science is my religion, i do believe in a higher power, but it is the universe itself that is god in my eyes. A good friend of mine once was attacked by groups of christians because he is gay, and so was another one who was a lesbian, telling her to change, as if she could. Another group of christians attempted (well....almost succeeded) in burning down a church that allowed gays. A friend of mine (who was close) began telling me that I am going to hell and that he is right. Well, their bible says that they are not ones to judge, does it not? That is very religious of them to condemn. *sarcasm* I do not bother with reigious people until they attack those who they should not touch.Bigots are people who steadfastly maintain a biased or prejudiced outlook, one based on their personal viewpoints rather than on fact, consensus, or accommodation.
