Answer:

A toga is an oblong, draped piece of cloth with rounded bottoms. It was worn by male Roman citizens on formal occasions. By the time of the late Republic the toga had grown from the simple wrap of the early days to a huge, heavy, bulky monster which most men gave up wearing except when the absolutely had to wear one. They opted instead for the more comfortable and practical cloak.
