What is a roof batten?

Answer:
In the UK a roof batten is called a tile batten; this runs across the roof
to fix the tiles too; this is 2 by 1 treated timber.
Under this at right angles is nailed too the roof
a counter batten; this allows an air gap
under this again is laid a DPM/
[This means damp proof membrane].
