Spell check is a program, usually in Microsoft programs, that corrects mispelled words. Like I said, this program is usually found and used in Microsoft programs but is found on other places on the computer like this website, answers.com. Spell check (it looks like a check mark with letters by its side), on this website, is found when answering and editing answers to questions. On Microsoft programs, words that are mispelled will be underlined in red. To correct the mispelled words, you could right click the mouse which will give you many options. At the very top of the options will be some suggestions for what word you could've meant. You could also press the icon (again it looks like a check mark by letters). Although spell check is useful for misspellings, it is not always effective because of homophones. Some homophones include its and it's; there, their, and they're; wear and where; see and sea; eight and ate; for and four, our and hour; two, to, and too so on and so forth. For example, "When an our after dinner passes, my ate siblings are going two go shopping to sea what their going too where next year," is a completely messed up sentence but wouldn't be corrected by spell check. This is how the sentence should be, "When an hour after dinner passes, my eight siblings are going to go shopping to see what they're going to wear next year." This is also a good reason to always double check what you write or even better, let someone else read it to get a different perspective on the spelling.
