  1. He was born in April, 1564 and baptised on the 26th.
  2. He grew up in the town of Stratford-upon-Avon, Warwickshire. His father was a glover and merchant. He had three brothers and a sister who lived to adulthood and three more sisters who died as children.
  3. He married Anne Hathaway in late November 1582 when he was only 18
  4. His daughter Susanna was born early in 1583 and he and Anne had twins, Judith and Hamnet, who were born in 1585.
  5. Sometime after the twins were born but before 1592 Shakespeare went to London where he was involved with the theatre community as an actor and playwright.
  6. His first published work, Venus and Adonis, was published in 1593 and was a success.
  7. In 1594 he became a partner in a theatre company called The Lord Chamberlain's Men, headed by Richard Burbage.
  8. In 1597 he bought New Place, the second largest house in Stratford.
  9. He bought a share in the new Globe Theatre when it was built in 1599. Later he bought a share in the Blackfriars Theatre.
  10. He retired in 1613 and returned to Stratford where he died on April 23, 1616 and is buried.
