The plot is what drives the story (hopefully). It is the essence, the quest, the reason for the characters to be together either on the pages or on the screen. There is almost always sub-plots, and your main characters growth arch from beginning to end of the story.

well basically the plot is .. the main part of the story like the storyline . Or what happens in the story is called the plot

"The Witch" is a Horror film that includes elements of isolation, religious fanaticism, witchcraft, and family tension. The setting in 17th-century New England adds to the atmospheric and unsettling tone of the movie. The film explores the breakdown of a family as they grapple with their fears and suspicions, ultimately leading to a tragic conclusion.

A ghost story can have any plot you want, so long as there is a ghost somewhere in it -- or at least the suspicion or possibility of a ghost.
