A toolbar is a dockable child window that contains icons that activate program features.
In later versions, toolbars are known as ribbons. The default configuration in Excel 2010 has File, Home, Insert, Page Layout, Formulas, Data, Review and View as ribbon titles. In those ribbons, you will find commands that are generally related to the ribbon title.

Usually the Standard Toolbar and below it the Formatting Toolbar. It is possible to reposition them and even have one overlapping the other, which is not a good idea.

All depending on what version of Microsoft Excel you have - there's a tab along the top toolbar that says "Format".

The File name will usually appear at the top of the excel file. It should look something like this: file name - Microsoft Excel...

Go to the Help menu and look at the About option which will tell you. The version of Excel you have is linked to the version of Office you have. If you know what version of Office you have, then you know what version of Excel you have.
