What is a veneer?In: Wood Crafts |
[Edit] |
Veneer, basically is a thin piece of wood sliced from a log, today most all veneer is sliced---rotary-cut, half-round, flat-sliced, or quarter-sliced, for irregular shaped veneer, you have Burl-sliced, Butt and stump-sliced, and Crotch-sliced. Typical factory veneer thickness ranges from 1/100" to 1/28" (this type of veneer is finishing veneer), other veneers, like those that make up manufactured wood, (plywood) can have a thickness of 1/10" to 3/16". Veneer comes a few different ways, plain veneer (no backing), for Professionals, Standard veneer which is paper backed and needs a glue to attach it to a substrate, and a pressure-sensitive adhesive-backed (also called peel-and-stick) veneer.
