The SSID (or Service Set IDentifier) names and identifies a wireless network,
It is something that access points broadcast to client devices to announce the presence of the access point.
The SSID denotes the name of a network on a Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN), and could be any name up to thirty-two (32) characters in lenght.
For security reasons, broadcasting of this SSID is commonly turned off on some routers.
The link below give more details.
A wireless network is always assigned two names to identify it. The SSID is the name that is broadcast to users to identify the network such as "GuestNetwork" or "XYZPublic". It is very common for different wireless networks to have the same SSID. The BSSID is the longer, non human readable identifier that is broadcast to other devices, and is generally unique.
(Service Set IDentifier) The name assigned to a wireless Wi-Fi network. All devices must use this same, case-sensitive name to communicate, which is a text string up to 32 bytes long. Typically set to the equipment vendor's name, such as "linksys," it can be manually changed by going into the configuration settings of the access point with a Web browser. The client machines will identify all the wireless networks they find when they boot up, unless the networks are hidden (see ssid-broadcast). See wireless-lan-technology.
SSID is the name of any WIFI distributer. SSID name of the Network
What do you mean "Get around" SSID's? You need the SSID to ID what you want to connect to. The SSID is used to ID the Access point of the network. You "select" the SSID of the network you want to connect to. There is no reason to "get around" the SSID. It IS what you need to use to connect to the network. What do you mean "Get around" SSID's? The ssid is the network name. So if your network name is 'linksys' so is your ssid.
the ssid code.everybody knows that.
An SSID is any name you want to give to your wireless network router (to identify it) up to 32 characters long. Frequestly the SSID has a default that is supplied by the router manufacturer. it is important ,not to broadcast ur ssid ,also change ur ssid name.

An SSID is the 'name' of a wireless network, it doesn't have to be a number.
To connect to a WiFi network the SSID must be known so a FAKE SSID will prevent connection to the network.
SSID stands for service set identifier. It's usually called a network name. A SSID has a maximum length of 32 bytes. It's possible to inhibit the broadcasting of your SSID.
The SSID is not something to do with the PSVita itself, it is the 'name' of your wireless network. So when the PSVita wants an SSID, tell it to do an automatic scan, and select your from the list.
Change the SSID
An attacker can spoof the SSID simply by using an SSID of NULL in all messages.
